Fragrant flowers from Shakespeare, first made for the inaugural Barnes Fragrance Fair.

This is the fragrance we made for the Barnes Fragrance Fair, and the aim was to make the aroma of Shakespeare's flowers. Amanda Carr of BFF and We Wear Perfume, and our perfumer, Sarah McCartney, went to visit Gyles and Michelle Brandreth at their house in Barnes and Gyles suggested the name, because Shakespeare's first sonnet mentions "beauty's rose".

To Sonnet No 1's beauty's rose - both the absolute and essential oil - we added lavender, beeswax and hay absolutes, and evoke the aromas of lily and violet. It floats on a bed of white biotech musk.

(This is officially a 7.5ml vial but actually holds 9mls. All our bottles take more than the official contents, but in this case if we only put 7.5ml in, it would look as if we'd forgotten to fill it up properly.)

This is the most expensive fragrance we've ever made, topping The Waft From The Loft, although that was a lot more complicated to make. For batch number one we only made 500mls. We plan to make more though.
